The 1995 BMW 540i M-Sport
In late 1995, just prior to switching to the E39 5-series body style for the 1997 model year (there is no such thing as a U.S. 1996 model year 5-series), BMW pumped one last breath of life into the V8 powered, E34-bodied, 540i for the U.S. market: The 1995 540i Sport.
They did this by using almost all of the parts that went into the European 1995 6-cylinder E34 ///M5, except the engine and transmission.

1995 BMW 540i M-Sport FAQ
1. What is the history of the BMW 540i through the E34? The third generation 5 Series started arriving in late 1987. Totally redesigned, very similar to the 7 series, the new body was stiffer, offered less wind resistance, improved upon the front/rear aerodynamics and improved crosswind stability. The cars were lighter and offered more interior room.
Introduced with five basic models, by the end of production taking into account engine combinations, 18 types of the E34 were available with a power range of 113 horsepower to 315 horsepower.

Is it a REAL 540i M-Sport?
I frequently get emails from people wanting to know if a ‘95 540i they’ve found is really one of the rare “M-Sport” cars. Many people have taken standard 540is and bolted on all sorts of aftermarket parts trying, creating “fakes”. If you’re looking to buy a 540i “M-Sport” and want to be able to tell the real-deal from an impostor, this page should help.
The table on the main page shows how the standard ‘95 540i, the 540i M-Sport, and the Canadian ‘95 M540i compare.

Charlie's 1995 BMW 540i M-Sport
About my 1995 BMW 540i M-Sport, a car that is a breath (roughly 2 cylinders) away from being a US 1995 M5.
**LBQ*: 895
Of all cars I’ve owned, I think this car had the highest LBQ.
I took this picture as the car left my driveway for the last time: March 11, 2006. About a year later it was totalled by a city bus. It’s parts were later used to build a US E34 M5 Touring.

Big Brake Service
Big Brake Service
I have a 1995 BMW 540i Sport with a Dinan Stage 3 brake kit installed. When I needed new pads and rotors I called Dinan to purchase replacements. I was shocked to learn how expensive they are and wondered it there was a cheaper way. After a bit or research I learned the the Dinan kit is in fact a complete brake system of mighty euro-only 1995 M5.
